What a GoHighLevel snapshot is
A snapshot captures the configuration of a GoHighLevel sub-account at a point in time and packages it as an installable template. When you install a snapshot into a new or existing sub-account, it copies all the selected elements into that account. The original account is not affected. The snapshot is a copy, not a transfer.
Think of a snapshot as a blueprint. You build the ideal GHL setup for a roofing company: the right pipeline stages, the right automations, the right message templates. You save that as a snapshot. Every roofing company client you onboard gets that exact setup in one click, then you customise the business name, phone number and any client-specific details. What used to take 8 to 10 hours of setup per client takes 20 to 30 minutes.
What a snapshot includes
When you create a snapshot, you can choose to include any combination of the following elements:
- Pipelines: all pipeline stages and settings
- Workflows: all automation workflows and their triggers, actions and timing
- Email templates: all saved email designs and content
- SMS templates: all saved SMS message templates
- Funnels and websites: all funnel pages and website pages
- Forms and surveys: all form and survey configurations
- Calendars: calendar configuration and settings (not bookings)
- Custom fields: all contact and opportunity custom fields
- Tags: all contact tags
- Trigger links: all tracking links
Snapshots do not include contacts, conversations, existing bookings or any live data from the source account. They capture configuration only, which is exactly what you want when deploying a template to a new client.
How to install a snapshot
Go to your agency dashboard and navigate to the sub-account you want to install the snapshot into. Click the Snapshots tab at the top of the sub-account page. You will see any snapshots available to your agency account.
Click the snapshot you want to install. A dialog box appears letting you select which elements of the snapshot to include in the installation. If the sub-account already has some configuration, you can choose to merge the snapshot with existing content or replace it. For brand new sub-accounts, a full installation is usually the right choice.
Click Install and the process completes within 30 to 60 seconds. All selected elements appear in the sub-account immediately. You can then go through the account and customise the business-specific details: replace placeholder business names in templates, connect the client's phone number, link their Google Business Profile and adjust any settings specific to their operation.
How to build your own snapshot
The most important principle in building a good snapshot is to build and test everything thoroughly before saving it. Every workflow should be published and tested with real test contacts. Every funnel page should be reviewed on both desktop and mobile. Every email template should be sent as a test to check rendering. A snapshot captures whatever state the source account is in when you save it.
Set up a dedicated template sub-account in your agency. This account exists only to hold your snapshot source and should never have real client data in it. Build everything you want in the snapshot into this template account over time as you refine your processes.
To create the snapshot, go to Agency Settings, then Snapshots. Click Create Snapshot. Select your template sub-account and give the snapshot a clear name that describes what it is for: "Contractor Snapshot v2" or "Real Estate Agent Setup." Select all elements you want to include and click Create.
The snapshot saves to your agency and is immediately available to install into any sub-account.
How agencies use snapshots to scale
Without snapshots, onboarding each new client requires building their pipelines, workflows, templates and funnels from scratch or copying elements manually between accounts. At 2 to 3 clients per month, this manual setup is manageable. At 10 to 15 clients per month, it becomes a full-time job for a team member.
Agencies that build strong snapshots report onboarding time dropping from 8 to 10 hours per client to 20 to 40 minutes. The savings compound: an agency onboarding 10 clients per month saves 70 to 90 hours per month in setup time. That freed time goes into client results, sales or building a better snapshot.
The snapshot also improves client outcomes. When every client gets the same proven configuration rather than a setup that varies based on which team member built it, quality becomes more consistent. Clients get the automations that work rather than the ones an individual team member happened to know how to build.
Building niche-specific snapshots
The most valuable snapshots are niche-specific: a snapshot built entirely for roofing companies, another for real estate agents, another for dental practices. Niche snapshots command higher value because the message templates, pipeline stages and automations are all relevant to that specific industry without requiring customisation.
A roofing company snapshot might include: a 7-stage service pipeline (New Lead, Contacted, Estimate Sent, Follow Up, Won, Scheduled, Completed), missed call text-back with roofing-specific message templates, estimate follow-up sequence with roofing-relevant content, seasonal campaign templates for spring tune-ups and storm damage outreach and review request automation. Everything a roofing company needs, ready to activate on day one.
Building this level of niche specificity into a snapshot is a meaningful time investment upfront. The return is the ability to onboard every new client in that niche in under 30 minutes with a setup that already reflects their industry language and workflow.
Sharing and selling snapshots
Snapshots can be shared with other GHL agency accounts through a share link. This is how the GHL ecosystem works: agencies build valuable snapshots and share or sell them to other agencies. If you build an exceptional niche snapshot, other agencies will pay $97 to $497 for access to it.
