Why connecting Facebook Ads to GHL matters
The average time businesses take to follow up on Facebook Lead Ads is 4 to 12 hours. Research on lead conversion consistently shows that contacting a new lead within 5 minutes is dramatically more effective than contacting them within 30 minutes, and response within 30 minutes is dramatically more effective than response the next day.
Facebook leads are particularly time-sensitive because of how they are generated. Someone scrolling through their feed sees your ad, fills out a pre-populated form in under 30 seconds and submits. At that moment their awareness of your business is at its peak. An hour later they have scrolled past 200 more pieces of content and forgotten the interaction entirely. A text message arriving within 60 seconds of their form submission catches them at exactly the right moment.
The integration also eliminates the manual export process entirely. No more downloading CSVs from Facebook's Lead Center, reformatting them and importing into your CRM. Every lead flows automatically, every time.
Before you start
You need three things ready before connecting: a Facebook Business Manager account with admin access, a Facebook page linked to your Business Manager and at least one active Facebook Lead Ads campaign (or a test lead form). You also need to know which GHL sub-account you want the leads to flow into.
If you are running lead ads for multiple clients as an agency, make sure you connect the integration inside the correct client sub-account rather than at the agency level. Each sub-account manages its own Facebook page connection independently.
Step 1: Connect your Facebook account to GHL
In GoHighLevel, navigate to Settings, then Integrations, then look for Facebook in the integrations list. Click Connect. You will be redirected to Facebook's OAuth flow asking you to log in and grant GHL permission to access your pages, ad accounts and lead data.
When prompted, select all Facebook pages you want to connect. If you manage pages for multiple clients, select all of them at this stage. You can specify which page maps to which sub-account in the next step. Complete the OAuth flow and you will be redirected back to GHL showing the connection as active.
Step 2: Link your Facebook page and ad account
After the initial connection, GHL shows you a list of the Facebook pages you granted access to. Select the page associated with this sub-account's business. Then select the ad account you run lead ads from for this business.
GHL will then show you a list of lead forms associated with that page. These are the actual forms used in your Lead Ads campaigns. If you do not see a form listed, it means either the form was created under a different page or the form has not been used in a published ad yet. Test forms created in Facebook's form library appear here even if they have not been used in a live campaign.
Step 3: Map your lead form fields
Facebook lead forms collect various fields depending on how you set them up. At minimum they collect name and email. Many also collect phone number, which is the most important field for SMS follow-up. Click on each form in GHL and map the Facebook fields to the corresponding GHL contact fields.
Standard mapping: Facebook "Full Name" maps to GHL First Name and Last Name. Facebook "Email" maps to GHL Email. Facebook "Phone Number" maps to GHL Phone. If you have custom questions in your lead form (budget range, job type, property size), create custom fields in GHL first and then map those Facebook fields to your custom GHL fields.
Phone number mapping is the critical one. If the phone field is not mapped correctly, GHL creates the contact without a phone number and your SMS automation cannot fire. Double-check this mapping before running your first test.
Step 4: Set up instant lead response automation
Now build the workflow that fires when a Facebook lead arrives. Go to Automation, then Workflows, then Create Workflow. Add the trigger: Contact Created. Add a filter: Tag equals "Facebook Lead" or Source equals "Facebook." GHL automatically tags leads by source when they come through the Facebook integration.
Add the first action: Send SMS. Zero delay. Write your instant response message: "Hi {{contact.first_name}}, thanks for your interest in [Business Name]. We got your message and will be in touch shortly. What can we help you with?" The question at the end is deliberate: it prompts a reply that starts a real conversation and signals to GHL that the lead has engaged.
Add a Wait step for 2 hours. Add an If/Else branch: if the contact has replied, end the workflow. If not, send an email follow-up with more detail about your service and a booking link or phone number. Continue the sequence with check-ins at day 1, day 3 and day 7 until the lead either responds or the sequence completes.
This is the same lead nurture structure covered in our full lead nurture sequence guide. The only difference is the trigger is now Contact Created with a Facebook source filter rather than a form submission.
Step 5: Test the integration
Facebook provides a way to send a test lead through any lead form without running a live ad. In Facebook Business Manager, go to your page's Lead Ads Forms library, find your form and click the three-dot menu, then Preview Form, then Submit Test Lead. Submit the test form with your personal phone number and email.
Within 90 seconds, check your GHL Contacts tab. The test contact should appear. Check that the name, email and phone fields are populated correctly. Then check your personal phone: the automated SMS should arrive within 60 to 90 seconds of the contact being created.
If the contact appears but the SMS did not arrive, check the workflow is published not draft and that the phone field mapped correctly in step 3. If the contact did not appear at all, the Facebook connection may have lapsed. Go back to Settings, then Integrations, then Facebook and reconnect.
Troubleshooting common issues
Leads not appearing in GHL: The Facebook connection token expires periodically and needs to be refreshed. Go to Settings, then Integrations, then Facebook and reconnect. This is the most common cause of stopped lead flow.
Phone field arriving empty: The phone field in Facebook lead forms is optional by default. If you want phone numbers, make sure your lead form has the phone field set to Required rather than Optional in Facebook's form builder. Also verify the field mapping in GHL is pointing to the correct Facebook field name.
Duplicate contacts being created: If a contact already exists in GHL with the same email or phone number and fills out your Facebook lead form, GHL may create a duplicate rather than updating the existing record. Enable the "Prevent Duplicate Contacts" setting in GHL's contact settings to merge on email or phone.
Wrong sub-account receiving leads: If leads are going to the wrong client account, check that the Facebook page connected in each sub-account is unique. A single Facebook page can only be connected to one GHL sub-account at a time.
