Quick summary
ConvertKit wins for bloggers, newsletter writers and content creators who want a clean email tool designed around audience building. GoHighLevel wins for coaches, course creators and service businesses that need CRM, booking, SMS automation and course hosting alongside email marketing.
ConvertKit for audience-first creators. GoHighLevel for business-first operators.
The distinction matters. If your primary activity is publishing content and growing a newsletter, ConvertKit's tools are more aligned with that workflow. If you run a coaching or service business and email is one channel among several, GoHighLevel handles email and removes the need for five other tools.

Email marketing
ConvertKit's email tool is genuinely excellent for what it is designed for. The composer is clean and minimal (intentionally so, most ConvertKit emails are plain text because they perform better). Tagging and segmentation are intuitive. Automations based on subscriber behaviour are well-designed. For a creator sending regular newsletters or launch sequences, it is a very clean experience.
GoHighLevel's email tool is functional and handles most use cases well, but it is not optimised for the newsletter creator workflow. Its strength is multi-channel automation where email is one component alongside SMS, voicemail and pipeline updates, not the core product.
For creators and coaches
This is where it gets interesting. Both platforms serve coaches, but differently.
A content creator or newsletter writer who makes money through sponsorships, digital products and a growing audience is better served by ConvertKit. The tools are designed around subscriber growth, broadcast performance and selling digital products to an email list.
A business-first coach who sells 1:1 or group coaching, runs discovery calls, manages a client pipeline and wants automated follow-up and review collection is better served by GoHighLevel. The CRM, booking system, SMS follow-up and client management features matter more to this type of coach than a polished newsletter composer.
For service businesses
GoHighLevel wins clearly for service businesses. ConvertKit is not built for service business workflows: it has no CRM, no SMS automation, no booking, no review management. If you run a roofing company, HVAC business, cleaning company or similar trade, ConvertKit is the wrong tool entirely.
